Hello,

Matthew here from Mayfest...

We're racing to the finishing line in preparation for this year's festival. And there's stuff happening all over Facebook at the moment, and I didn't want Theatre Bristol to miss out!

Here are a few links which you might find interesting...

Interview's with Gravity & Levity's Artistic Director Lindsey Butcher. They are performing their new aerial dance show SHIFT at Circomedia on the first night of the festival Friday 9 May
Interview in London Dance

Interview in The Times

Our Facebook Fan Page now has each Mayfest show as an event, so you can see who else is coming, and find out a bit more about each show. I've uploaded a few videos of the artists' work here too.

Finally, for those of you who still use Myspace... (how can something new seem so old-fashioned?), check out ours here

You can of course find out everything you need to know about booking tickets and where to go on our website www.mayfestbristol.co.uk

See you at the festival - we have various ticket deals going, including a buy 3 tickets get the 4th free for shows at the Tobacco Factory. Check the website for details.

You can reach us at info@mayfestbristol.co.uk.

Thought now the festival is in full swing it would be nice to discuss in the forum some of the work we've seen?

I saw Nikki Mcretton's 'Space 50' on Saturday and despite finding the childish performance style un-nerving at first by the end I was forced to bury my cynical self and I fell for the piece. The performer's enthusiasm for the subject matter and the way they totally threw themselves into the performance meant it was hard not to like what they were doing. I'm something of a space enthusiast myself so I was bound to enjoy those references but I also liked the way it was aligned with the theme of life as a journey and the hope we have when we're young and what happens to it. There were some really delightful images too, although I was at times frustrated by a sense that the piece was just a series of ideas and images lumped together and some of the links were clunky. Still, there was a very young chap behind me who spent the whole piece on the edge of his seat completely and utterly enraptured by the whole thing. He was giggling and gasping all the way through which was nice to see.
